Today
Today I went to the dentist, I was about 6 months over due so I was a bit nervous. I was probably more nervous for Andy who has a history of troublesome teeth despite excellent oral hygiene. Turns out there was no need for anxiety as God was very good to us and neither of us currently need any work done. Plus, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that our dental insurance requires nothing from us (financially speaking) for cleanings and preventative work twice/year. We’ve had some bad luck with dental insurance in the past and purposely went with the slightly more expensive type when given the options from Disney and I’m glad to say it was worth it. Insurance can be tricky, but one thing that is for sure is that you get what you pay for. Also, our dentist is so great!! He reminds me of how my Uncle Johnny probably is (also a dentist). It’s just him and his wife runs the front office. They were both very sweet and chatty, and I liked not feeling like I had to worry about being ripped off. They even gave me cute little toothbrushes designed for babies/young children when they saw I was pregnant. So sweet.
I’m also trying Serina’s bean recipe today for the first time. I really only like black beans at this point (though I’m trying to force myself to like all varieties like pinto and kidney) so I’m using those. After soaking them over night they turned this cool purple color that made me smile for no reason at all. I really like adding black beans to things like nachos, my southwest chicken crockpot meal, rice, last minute burritos etc and they’re Andy’s favorite too so if this works I can say good-bye to canned beans. I made a smaller batch this time (2 cups) and if they’re yummy like I think they will be I’ll likely try to make bigger batches in the future to keep on hand.
I finished making the flannel wipes yesterday, I managed to get 10 wipes out of the fabric. I wasn’t sure how to decide on their size so I measured a baby washcloth (8inx8in) and decided to cut my fabric to 10inx10in to take my own bad sewing techniques into account. Now that they’re done I think they’re the perfect size. I think I’ll also invest in some from this site, unless I can find some cheap flannel baby blankets to cut up and use, although I think having some of those premium wipes on hand will be a good thing. Mostly I just don’t feel like making more right now from scratch, but that might change. I think this was a really good project for me to start with because it was SO simple but gave me the chance to practice a lot of basic sewing skills like cutting, top stitching and slip stitching (my slip stitch sucks, I don’t think I even do it correctly). Once I get my new camera I’ll be sure to post pics of those too, I need a little back patting from my sewing friends to encourage me to keep trying stuff like this. Now it’s time to try to make those fleece pants. I don’t know if I’ll be able to do it, but at least the fabric was free so I won’t be out anything if I ruin the whole thing!!
I’m airing out the baby mattress today too. We have a nice patio that gets Southern exposure and therefore is sunny all day, so I figure I’ll leave it out there during the day for a couple of days before bringing it in to make the bed. I’ve also had to give in on leaving the nursery room door open because I just can’t get that yucky new wood smell out of that room otherwise. Even with the window open, as soon as the window is closed it smells gross in there again. Anyone have any tricks for remedying this problem? Oh!! I also got my glider from the UPS guy on Monday, although it’s still in a box in the garage because hubby needs help to get it upstairs, but at least it’s here. I can’t wait to have it in the nursery, it will really make it feel complete. Plus I really want to sit in it. I could see myself spending a lot of my early labor in this awesome chair while we wait to go to the hospital.
Well, that’s all the boring random stuff I can think of for now, enjoy! (Oh, and belly pics are coming this weekend…)

Which glider did you get? Do you have a link to it? I’m looking for a good one. I think my in-laws are going to give us some money for one.
Not sure on the airing out. I would just say, keep ventilating the room. Maybe it’s not been long enough yet. You don’t really want to just cover up the smell, even though that makes it smell better. Maybe try a fan in the window to blow the air out?
We are much more overdue for the dentist that y’all were. I hate finding a new dentist, plus we’re working on getting our house bought. Maybe next week I’ll start the search.

I’m going to make you both feel really good and admit that we haven’t seen a dentist the entire time we’ve lived in this city.
(Did I just type that out loud?)
It was just easy to keep putting off, and now we’re all, “Since we’re going to move, we might as well wait until we get settled into the new city, yadda yadda yadda…”
Anyhow, at least we still follow proper dental hygiene habits. But I’m afraid of any potential cavities hiding in our mouths.
How did the beans turn out?

Tricia: We bought our glider through babies r us, I did this for 2 reasons:
1. I wanted to actually sit in them and try them out as opposed to buying one online
2. The selection was decent and they had a big range in prices.
The manufacturer is Shermag but their website looks like maybe it’s being built so no helpful info there and babies r us doesn’t have it on there either. I’ll look around for another link and let you know. A few things to keep in mind, however:
1. Have Nate sit in it too. We chose one with a higher back to give full support to both our neck/shoulders.
2. Look for an ottoman that is nearly level with the seat height, this eases the strain on the low back.
3. You want padded arms for your comfort and because nursing pillows/regular pillows used for nursing comfort will slide off otherwise.
4. A locking mechanism was a must-have for me. This makes getting out of the chair SO much easier, especially if holding a sleeping child.
All of these things made for a pricier chair by I feel it was worth it considering how many hours I’m likely to spend in it!
Serina: I put the beans right into bags in the freezer, but they smelled and looked great so I’m sure they’ll be delish. I’m making nachos later this week and can’t wait to use them :o)
